If you’re new to the SEO game you will find that there is a wealth of information you need to know. Most importantly you’ll find there a lot of misinformation going around and is easy to fall into the lies.
So how to sort the good from the bad advice?
It can be a minefield, but just for starters I have included my top five search engine optimization myths:
5. Meta tags are the key to SEO success
Let me tell you a secret: the search engine crawlers ignore the keyword and description meta tags. Seriously. They know they can get in as many keywords as you want because their human visitors are not. It’s a safe bet that meta tags have little or no influence on your ranking – and experts have known this secret for years.
The meta description tags are important because they control what appears in Google results page.
Another important meta tag is robots.txt as it can be used mainly to keep the spiders from search engines to your website.
And remember, the title tag is not a meta tag! Great Title Tags are crucial for success.
4. Be sure to resubmit to search engines regularly
It’s amazing how many times will be offered a package that includes one months SEO resubmit to search engines.
Only do this if you want to throw money down the drain. Search engines prefer to find your new content for their own regular crawling of your site. They also prefer to find your site through inbound links from quality, so you yell at them on your site will not help.
3. Hide text on your pages by putting white text on a white background
This is a trick that worked last century, but today you would be stupid things invisible keywords on their websites. The idea is to increase the density of your keyword phrase without human visitors see. Please do not.
Google explicitly warns against the hidden text in their webmaster quality guidelines and in 2005, criticized Jagger Update Google Web sites that use invisible text.
2. Some Black Hat classification give the boost they need
Run for the hills.
Black search engine optimization hat is simply cheating. Google has a long memory, that means that if you make a little black hat and then stop now, Google is still remembered his misbehavior. And you find.
Practice of Google is very simple in terms of what it considers good and bad. And it does not take a genius to understand the basics of black hat SEO. Spamming on the blogs. Link farms. Doorway pages. Keyword stuffing.
1. Guaranteed number one ranking
Any business search engine optimization promises to make a number is either being economical with the truth or you’re dealing with.
Internet Marketing companies do not control the search engines. And they can not predict the changes that are occurring on a regular basis.
What you can do is to make the number one as a dark phrase “20-something Internet marketing consultant Nottingham.” Phrases that will do nothing to help your business.
If you heard promises like that just say “thanks but no thanks” and leave.
So there are just some of the lies circulating about SEO success. If a company tries to sell his services to speak of any of these techniques, run a mile!
