When you view the search results, sometimes you see some additional links to other pages, including a single search result for the page. This often happens when the search engine finds your query navigation, and you want to find some specific page on the site. For example, if you want to visit the homepage of WordPress, Instead of typing «wordpress.org» or «wordpress.com» in the browser address bar, you can type «wordpress» in the search form. The possibility exists that you want to get into a WordPress page, instead of finding sites that mention the word «wordpress».

Search engines do not always use the same mechanisms, which direct you to the page, but there is a significant number of similarities. For example, using the word «wordpress» in search engine Google, you will see the homepage wordpress.org top of search results as well as several links to pages on this site, including the page where you can download the software, as well as a page with links to support forums. In a similar finding in Yahoo you will see the homepage wordpress.com – accommodation services of blogs, as well as additional pages of the categories of blogs, which can be found on the page.

Why does Google show site where you can download the software, and Yahoo shows- accommodation services blogs?

Is your organization considering setting up a profile on a social networking site? Are you wondering what tasks are involved, how much time it will take, and how you might streamline your efforts? Maybe your organization has established a presence on MySpace and is now contemplating adding one to Facebook. Perhaps you are wondering how you can juggle multiple profiles and still have time left to do other work.

As more and more organizations jump on the social networking bandwagon, people are seeking ways to make the time spent on these tools as efficient and fruitful as possible. I recently surveyed several nonprofit professionals and social networking mavens about their social networking habits. The tips below, taken from their responses, offer suggestions for effectively managing your profiles and contacts on social networking sites, finding people with relevant interests to your nonprofit or professional goals, working between multiple social networking sites, and getting the most out of social networking tools even if you’re not a Web designer or techie.

    1. Invest Time in Your Network

While most online social networks cost nothing for your organization to join, keep in mind that creating a strong online presence on one can require an investment of up to two hours a day, especially in the beginning when you are learning how to use the site, setting up your profile, and making friends. If you’re unprepared to make this commitment, you may want to reconsider using these tools at your organization.

If you don’t have someone on-staff who can help manage your social networks, you may want to seek outside help. Heather Mansfield, Community Manager at Change.org, suggests finding a social networking intern or an assistant who can spend a minimum of 10 hours per week managing your site or sites, noting that many organizations are seeking full-time staffers to do the job. “I am starting to see larger nonprofits creating full-time social networking positions for 40 hours a week,” she said.

Keep in mind that there is a fair amount of trial and error with using social networking sites, and your organization may not see results right away. “There is a learning curve; don’t expect immediate results for at least three months, whatever your objectives may be,” advised Alex De Carvalho, Community Manager of multimedia social networking site Scrapblog. “Take the time to build your profile correctly and learn the ropes of what works and what doesn’t.” Nick Noakes, a director at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, stresses the value of this “no-guilt” exploration time. “It has brought me knowledge and contacts more than a lot of planned things I do,” he said.

Internet truly has a huge number of new search engines. And their number is increasing every day. But can you tell atleast one of them to beat Google? This question is answered by renowned Canadian internet marketer “Titas Hoskins” in his article.

Google – is really now a leading search engine. 72% of online searches in the U.S. are made through Google, and in the rest of the world, this percentage is even higher. Most of the websites are search engine optimized for Google.

But internet marketers must closely monitor the emergence of new search engines. This is especially true for those search engines that deliver more quality traffic. But Hoskins said that Google.com is responsible for about 80% of its revenues in the network.

On the subway, I bump elbows with a guy for 20 city blocks without exchanging a single word. Forty-five minutes later, I find the same guy at the local guitar shop, and we start to talk — turns out he plays a Gibson Les Paul just like I do. We may have been strangers on the train, but in the guitar shop, we discover our shared passion for guitars.

Often, the web can feel like that subway. There are probably people commuting to the places you regularly visit, but you don’t know who those people are, and your paths may never cross. With Google Friend Connect, we’ve been helping millions of website owners make their sites more like that guitar shop — a social place where visitors can get to know each other — and less like the anonymous subway ride.

With this in mind, we’re thrilled to introduce a new set of Friend Connect features that let site owners help their visitors get to know each other and personalize their site’s experience and content.

    Break the ice
Visitors to your site can get to know each other better by sharing details about themselves that are relevant to the site they’re on. As a site owner, you can help them do this by visiting the new “Interests” section of your Friend Connect account, where you can add site-relevant questions that people can answer when joining your website or via the poll gadget. For instance, if you have a music website, you might ask people to share their favorite bands, the last concert they attended, or where they discover new music. Or if you run a hiking site, you can ask them about a favorite hike or national park. The details people share are added to their Friend Connect public profiles for your site, which are seen by other site visitors. This way, your visitors can learn more about each other in the context of the interests that bring them to your website.

1055088_no_spamIn a stark statement, analysts have warned that Hong Kong is under siege from legions of “zombies” attacking people with spam and leaving in their wake a trail of destruction costing millions of dollars a year.

It sounds like the plot of a surrealist B-movie but it is the worrying scenario computer users are facing in a city which has been awarded the unenviable title of spam capital of the world.

The problem has taken a sinister new twist with the rise of so-called zombies — computers infected by a virus that are sending reams of spam, or unsolicited emails, without their users’ knowledge.
